Vols fight FSU for 'backer

Can Tennessee steal a player out from under Florida State's nose? Perhaps.

Rodney Gallon, who attends Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, may wind up playing for the hometown Seminoles but he's visiting Knoxville this weekend with his college options supposedly ''wide open.''

Gallon toured Auburn last weekend and apparently enjoyed the visit.

''I loved my trip to Auburn,'' Gallon told Scott Kennedy of TheInsiders.com. ''I enjoyed meeting with (linebackers) Coach (Joe) Whitt.''

Although the Tigers turned Gallon's head last weekend, the Vols have an opportunity to do the same this weekend.

''I want to see what they have to offer, and I've never been to the state of Tennessee before,'' Gallon said. ''I'm also going to visit Florida State on the 30th. I'm really still wide open."

Gallon, a 6-foot, 205-pounder with 4.5 speed, recorded 107 tackles as a junior, including 7 sacks. He fits the physical mold of recent UT linebackers such as Eric Westmoreland and Eddie Moore.
