Speedy Sleeper Visits Vols

Inquorous Johnson is an intriguing athlete from Atlanta, Ga., who has been offered by the Georgia Bulldogs, but not by the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He has also been offered by UT-Chattanooga which he hasn't visited and will visit UT-Knoxville which hasn't offered.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound multipurpose athlete has 4.4 speed and is rated No. 96 among the nation's wide receivers by The Insiders. However he could work as a fall back for the Vols at cornerback where only Jonathan Hefney has committed to the 2004 class.

At Crim High School last season Inquorous Johnson caught 30 passes for 443 yards and six touchdowns, rushed for 505 yards and four touchdowns, returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns, recorded 35 solo tackles, 10 pass breakups and four interceptions, one of which he returned for a TD. He also leads Crim's basketball team in scoring with a 26.5 point per game average.

Johnson dropped off the recruiting radar after missing his entire junior season with a broken collar bone, but bounced back for the big senior season at the small Atlanta high school and began to draw interest.

Georgia's scholarship offer is conditional upon Johnson qualifying. He, reportedly, made all A's last semester to boost his GPA past qualifying threshold and needs only 30 points on his SAT.

Incidentally, Johnson met Richmond High School (Rockingham, N.C.) teammates Dannell Ellerbe and Jamar Bryant on his visit to Georgia. Ellerbe has already visited Tennessee and has the Vols as one of his finalists. Bryant is visiting Tennessee this week despite already committing to Georgia.

It will be interesting to see where this trio of underrated prospects end up and how they might impact future games in the Tennessee-Georgia series.
