La. Tech joins grid slate

As expected, Louisiana Tech has been added to Tennessee's 2004 football schedule, filling the vacancy created when the Vol-Memphis game was rescheduled for 2013. A few minor details remain to be ironed out but those appear to be a mere formality.

Whereas Memphis was to host Tennessee on Nov. 13, Louisiana Tech will visit the Vols. In fact, the Bulldogs will be UT's Homecoming foe on Sept. 25.

Tennessee's 2004 home schedule will be: Nevada Las Vegas (Sept. 4), Florida (Sept. 18), Louisiana Tech (Sept. 25), Auburn (Oct. 2), Alabama (Oct. 23), Notre Dame (Nov. 6) and Kentucky (Nov. 27).

''We look forward to adding Louisiana Tech to what already is a great schedule,'' said Mike Hamilton, UT Director of Athletics. ''Scheduling Louisiana Tech also now gives our fans an additional opportunity to see the Vols in Knoxville.''

The schedule change balances the UT slate for the coming season, placing a third contest in September and breaking up what would have been nine games in nine weeks leading into the SEC Championship Game. Tennessee was scheduled to play at Memphis Nov. 13, but that game has been shifted to 2013 in an agreement reached last month between the two universities.

Louisiana Tech finished 5-7 last season, including a 3-5 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. In their only previous meeting against Tennessee, the Bulldogs dropped a 50-0 decision in Knoxville to begin the 1993 season.

The entire 2004 schedule:

Sept. 4 - UNLV
Sept. 18 - Florida
Sept. 25 - Louisiana Tech
Oct. 2 - Auburn
Oct. 9 - at Georgia
Oct. 16 - at Mississippi
Oct. 23 - Alabama
