Ayers goes public Tuesday

After losing three top linebacker prospects last week, the Tennessee Vols will be eagerly watching Tuesday when another big-time 'backer goes public with his pledge.

Robert Ayers of Marlboro County High in Bennettsville, S.C., has UT in his final three with roughly 24 hours left until his announcement.

''I will announce on Tuesday at 6:20 (p.m.) or so on local television,'' Ayers told TheInsiders.com. ''It will be South Carolina, Florida or Tennessee. I am still working on the decision.''

Ayers is a 6-foot-4, 227-pounder with 4.5 speed. He projects to play outside linebacker, and is ranked No. 8 nationally at that position.

Tennessee just missed on three highly touted linebacker prospects late last week. Josh Johnson picked Georgia, Lawrence Timmons opted for Florida State and Hugh D'Imperio committed to Michigan State.

Tennessee has three linebackers committed -- Demarcus Stevens, James Turner and Antonio Reynolds. But Reynolds, already enrolled, has been issued a lineman's number (90) and told he'll play defensive end.
