Delmonico on rules committee

Vol baseball coach has been named to the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee. The 15-year coach of the Volunteers takes over Sept. 1 and will serve a four-year term through 2008.

The committee consists of nine members (four from Division I, two from Division II, two from Division III and an additional secretary-rules editor). They have stewardship of NCAA playing and administrative rules for all divisions of the NCAA. It is in charge of making recommendations to the championships committee and act as a liaison between coaches, umpires and the NCAA.

''I am extremely honored to be selected as a member of the rules committee,'' said Delmonico. ''The rules committee has played a very important role recently in the aluminum bat issue and I look forward to doing what I can to keep college baseball growing while also making the game safe for the student-athletes.''

Other members of the committee are Chair Dennis Womack (Virginia), Frank Cruz (Loyola Marymount University), John Iamarino (Northeast Conference), Larry Marfise (University of Tampa), Chris McKnight (Frostburg State University), Gary Vaught (University of Indianapolis) and Michael Walsh (Washington & Lee University).
