Gordon gets 32 in win

One of the top targets on Tennessee basketball's recruiting list continues to post big numbers.

Junior standout Jamont Gordon of Nashville Glencliff scored 32 points Tuesday night in leading his school to a 67-56 defeat of Antioch.

David Palmer, a 6-foot-8 junior for Antioch who already is committed to Illinois, scored 12 in the losing cause.

Gordon, Palmer and Giles County's Tyler Smith, a 6-foot-6 small forward, could rank among the country's elite national prospects next fall. Tennessee is believed to be in good shape on Gordon and Smith but there's a lot of storyline to unfold between now and the November early signing period.

Certainly, Gordon and Smith would have a chance to be impact players if they elect to join UT for the 2005-06 season. The Vols are weak at small forward right now, providing an excellent opportunity for Smith. And off guard Scooter McFadgon will be out of eligibility by the 2005-06 season, creating a spot that Gordon might be destined to fill.
