Family Ties for Huge TE Prospect

Jeff Cottam is a monster of a Tight End prospect. He will be heavily recruited this season, and some family ties may give one team the early edge.

Jeff Cottam is a 6'8 255lb prospect out of Germantown, Tennessee. What schools are he looking at early?

"I'm looking at SEC teams. I think the SEC has the best conference around," Cottam said.

Jeff's Brother Brad is a member of the Tennessee Volunteers. Did Jeff grow up a Rocky Top fan?

"Actually I like Memphis. They were right here, so I liked them. I have been a fan of Tennessee for the last year since my brother got there also."

With Cottam's large frame, it seems that he could eventually grow into an Offensive Tackle at the next level. Is that something he has considered?

"No. I want to be a tight end definitely. I don't want to play tackle."

What will Jeff be looking for most of all in a school?

"I want to go somewhere I can get playing time by my sophomore year. I also definitely want a school who throws to the tightend."

What are Cottam's goals for next year?

"I want to make All-State. Last year I was preseason All-State, but I didn't get it."

Jeff's Germantown High School team won the Tennessee State Championship a year ago, and they will attempt to duplicate that feat in 2004.
