Vols watching power forward

Tennessee is going head-to-head with some of college basketball's heavyweights for the services of a heralded forward.

Richard Hendrix is averaging 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocked shots per game for Athens (Ala.) High School. He recently recorded a triple-double against Decatur High, finishing with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks. Rated the No. 5 power forward prospect in America by TheInsiders, he has guided his team to a 29-2 record.

The Vols are showing great interest in the 6-foot-8, 250-pounder. So are Duke, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Indiana, North Carolina State, Wisconsin, Alabama and Auburn.

Hendrix recently told Dave Telep of TheInsiders.com that the three schools recruiting him the hardest are UT, North Carolina and Alabama. Each school's head coach has attended one of Hendrix's games this season.
