Carolina DB likes Vols

A rangy junior defensive back from the other side of the Smoky Mountains lists Tennessee among his favorites.

Brandon Ghee is a 6-0, 175-pounder from Jack Britt High School of Fayetteville, N.C. He reportedly covers 40 yards in 4.4 seconds -- speed he used to record five interceptions last fall, returning one for a touchdown.

According to Miller Safrit of TheInsiders.com, Ghee was voted ''Best Defensive Back'' following his junior season and has ''a ton of athleticism, speed and strength.''

Although his brother, Patrick, is playing for Wake Forest, Brandon lists Maryland, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Tennessee as his early favorites.

Secondary help is a glaring need for the Vols, who lost four of their top five DBs from 2003 -- starting corner Jabari Greer, starting safeties Rashad Baker and Gibril Wilson, plus nickel back Mark Jones.

The Big Orange signed four defensive back prospects on Feb. 4 -- Jonathan Hefney, Inquoris Johnson, Ellix Wilson and Ryan Karl -- but will be looking to further bolster its secondary depth next Signing Day.
