UT is huge DT's 'favorite'

One of the biggest, and best, defensive tackle prospects in all of high school football lists Tennessee in his final five. In fact, the Vols appear to be in the lead.

John Jerry is a 6-foot-6, 325-pounder from South Panola High of Batesville, Miss. He runs a 5.1 in the 40-yard dash, with a 360 bench press and a 485 squat. He recorded 84 tackles and three sacks as a junior last fall.

''Tennessee was my favorite team growing up,'' he told Scott Kennedy of TheInsiders.com. ''My Top five right now is Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Miami, and Ohio State.''

Given his incredible size and statistics, Jerry projects to be one of the South's premier prospects next fall.

''I've gotten offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, Miami, Southern Miss, and Michigan,'' he said. ''I went to Ole Miss-LSU and Mississippi State-Ole Miss for games last year.''

Tennessee is looking for defensive tackle help after losing both starters from 2003 -- Mondre Dickerson (who is out of eligibility) and J.T. Mapu (who is beginning a two-year Mormon mission). Jerry, who fits the John Henderson/Albert Haynesworth mold of towering D-tackles, looks to be a perfect fit for The Hill.
