UT likes slender safety

A lanky junior defensive back is getting a long look from Vol football recruiters.

David Bruton is a 6-3, 175-pounder from Miamisburg, Ohio who reportedly has 4.48 speed over 40 yards and already has one scholarship offer.

''David Bruton has been on one unofficial visit so far,'' Miamisburg head coach Tim Lewis told Duane Long of Bucknuts.com. ''He visited University of Cincinnati last Saturday (March 6) and Coach Dantonio offered David a full scholarship to play and attend U.C.''

Bruton plans to schedule a visit to Purdue, which Lewis believes also will come through with a scholarship offer.

''He will be visiting Ohio State on April 9 to meet Coach Tressel and Coach Tucker, visit practice, et cetera,'' Lewis said. ''He has been contacted by Iowa, Indiana, Northwestern, Florida, Tennessee, just to name a few. He has received letters from many schools stating that they will be here in May to see him.''

Although he's still early in the recruiting process, Bruton seems to like the Big Orange.

''David is mainly interested in Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan, Miami (Florida), Tennessee, Cincinnati -- in no order,'' Lewis said. ''He is remaining very open right now and will evaluate everything after he has met the coaches and visited a lot more schools.''

Tennessee is desperate for safety help due to the impending graduation loss of 2003 starters Gibril Wilson and Rashad Baker, along with backup Mark Jones.
