Vol prospects' update

Two in-state juniors that Tennessee's basketball program desperately needs took different paths in Monday night's TSSAA playoff action.

Jamont Gordon scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half, lifting Nashville Glencliff past Hendersonville 70-51 in a Class AAA sectional. Gordon hit a 3-pointer to open the game but picked up two quick fouls and didn't score again until the third quarter. Glencliff faces Jackson North Side March 18 in the TSSAA playoffs at Middle Tennessee State University.

Tyler Smith scored 13 points but it wasn't enough as Giles County suffered a 75-62 upset loss to Jackson South Side in a Class AA sectional. According to The Jackson Sun, Smith made five ''spectacular dunks'' during the contest. However, he sank just one of five free throw attempts as the defending state champs finished 29-6.

Gordon is a 6-foot-3 off guard. Smith is a 6-foot-6 small forward. Both are ranked among the top 25 juniors in America and both are high on UT's recruiting list for 2004-05.
