Thornton sets state record

A sharpshooting junior guard who is high on Tennessee's recruiting list continues to impress.

Josh Thornton made 16 shots from 3-point range in three state tournament games over the past few days, setting a new Delaware state record in the process. The 6-1 playmaker scored 29 points - hitting five 3-pointers - Tuesday night. Still, he and his Caesar Rodney teammates came out on the short end of a 73-64 loss to Middletown.

Thornton also hit five 3s in a shocking upset of top-seeded Sussex Tech earlier in the tourney, totalling 17 points in that game.

Making Thornton's recent performances all the more remarkable is the fact he has been slowed by knee problems.

Thornton made an official visit to UT on Jan. 31, witnessing the Vols' upset of Florida. He is believed to be Tennessee's primary target among point guard prospects.
