Vols looking to get Lucky

The Tennessee football program is looking to get Lucky ... literally.

Marlon Lucky is a 6-foot, 200-pound running back from North Hollywood (Calif.) High School who rushed for 1,772 yards and 26 touchdowns last fall. He averaged nearly nine yards per carry and caught 14 passes for 219 yards. This versatile rusher lists the Vols among his four favorite programs.

Asked by Garry Paskwietz of WeAreSC.com which schools he is considering, Lucky replied:

''USC, Arizona, LSU, Tennessee. I like the tradition at SC; there are a lot of running backs that come out of there. The whole program is good, the coaches, I like everything about SC. It's close to home but it's not really a factor for me to stay or leave.

''Arizona, they are recruiting me a lot but, I don't know, that's in the heat. It's really hot down there. I got a lot of family that live around LSU so I'm taking a look at them as well.

''With Tennessee, they were my first favorite team when I was a kid and I would follow them on TV. I didn't really know too much about USC until I moved out to LA and started going to games, going to the campus, checking things out.''

Luring a tailback from California to Knoxville seems like a longshot but the Vols already have turned this trick twice in recent years -- getting Onterrio Smith (Sacramento) and Arian Foster (San Diego).
