335-pounder gets UT's attention

He's 6-6 and 335 pounds ... and he likes Tennessee.

Calvin Wilson is a two-way tackle from Hattiesburg (Miss.) High School who earned all-area recognition as a junior last fall. Athletic enough to play varsity basketball, he has been starting on the gridiron since 10th grade. Covering 40 yards in 5.3 seconds -- not bad for someone his size -- he is sure to be one of Mississippi's hottest prospects in the year ahead.

''LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Marshall, Auburn, Nebraska, Arkansas and Colorado are sending me letters,'' Wilson told Gene Swindoll of TheInsiders.com. ''Once the season started, the letters started flowing in from everywhere.''

Wilson has attended Junior Day at three SEC schools so far this spring.

''I went to LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama's Junior Days,'' he said, adding that the various coaches ''said I was a pretty good athlete and that I was going to be highly recruited by them.''

He plans to attend summer camps at LSU and Ole Miss. Right now the Tigers and Rebels appear to be at the top of his list.

''LSU and Ole Miss are probably the top two,'' Wilson said. ''When I went to their Junior Days, they had nice facilities and their academics seemed right. LSU just built a big academic center. That really impressed me.''

Asked which schools he'd like to see show more interest, he replied: ''The University of Miami, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn.''

Given Phil Fulmer's fondness for king-sized offensive linemen, it's a safe bet the Vol head man will be visiting Hattiesburg in the not-too-distant future.
