Thursday Practice Report

It was a beautiful day for spring practice Thursday. In fact the weather has cooperated since practice started last Friday.

Some unexpected news, full back William Revill is leaving the team for personal reasons.

"He decided to give up football, it's his perogative and he felt he had to move onto something else, we wish him the best,"Coach Fulmer said.

Now the full back position is wide-open form here on out. There has been speculation that Jabari Davis or a tight end might be moved to full back and coach Fulmer later dispelled these rumors. Signee David Holbert will also have a shot at the job this fall.

There were a few injuries after the first day in pads on Tuesday.

Offensive lineman Aaron Sears will be out a least 2 weeks with an ankle sprain and other foot problems.

Defensive lineman Matt McGlothlin hopes to see action in about a week, as he recovers from a sprained arch.

Corey Larkins, Robert Meachem, Bret Smith, LaRon Harris and Marvin Mitchell are still out with various injuries.

On a brighter note wide receiver Chris Hannon will practice tomorrow. He suffered a sprained ankle on Tuesday.

C.J. Leak and Rick Clausen again took the majority of the snaps. James Banks did have 2 nice looking passes in limited action at quarterback.

"We hit a mental wall today," coach Fulmer said about the play of the quarterbacks.

Coach Fulmer hopes to get Clausen some more snaps with the number one offense later in the week. He referred to today's practice as a "teach day".

Coach Fulmer is looking forward to Saturday practice when the Vols will participate in a full-contact scrimmage.

The defensive secondary looked very good today. Antwan Stewart and Jason Allen both intercepted passes on the day and played great defense.

The next practice will be Friday at Bill Haslem Field.
