Can UT Harness this big guy?

Tennessee recruiters are hoping to ''harness'' one of the Peach State's premier line prospects.

Michael Harness is a 6-4, 300-pound junior offensive lineman for Pacelli High of Columbus, Ga. Georgia Tech and Auburn already have offered scholarships reportedly, and many more offers will be coming in the months ahead.

''I also like Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, and Arkansas,'' Harness told Ryan Jordan of

Asked which school is his early leader, Harness replied:

''Georgia Tech is my leader. I went there for their practice, and they showed us a real good time. We toured the campus, and I like it because it doesn't feel like you're in Atlanta at all. There's no traffic or anything, but when you go into the stadium and look up you see the buildings and everything. Then you realize you're in the city.''

Although he is big enough to play tackle, Harness prefers to play inside.

''I'd like to play center or guard,'' he said. ''The Tech coaches said they loved me on film and liked me at center. He''

One Tech aide was particularly smitten with the young man's abilities.

''He told me he could see how I mean I was, and how I was telling everyone else where to go and that those things are good for a leader at center,'' Harness said.

A fine technician, Harness doesn't miss many blocks.

''I graded out at over 95 percent for the season,'' he said, ''and I had about 50 pancakes.''
