Mississippi back likes UT

Despite recent scholarship offers from Notre Dame and UCLA, one of the South's top running back prospects continues to list Tennessee in his top five schools.

Andrew Eddie is a 5-11, 200-pounder from Okolona, Miss., who covers 40 yards in 4.5 seconds and also has the skills to be a college defensive back.

''Notre Dame and UCLA have offered me scholarships,'' Eddie told Scott Kennedy of TheInsiders.com. ''I was invited to go to spring games at LSU, Auburn, Mississippi state, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Memphis. The only one I've been to so far is Auburn.''

Still, Eddie says his favorite schools remain unaffected.

''My top five teams are still the same,'' he said. ''I like Florida State, Tennessee, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and LSU.''

Eddie is keeping busy this spring with track and baseball.

Okolona went 3-7 last year with a very young team. With 15 starters returning, a better supporting cast might allow Eddie to put up some really impressive numbers this fall.

Tennessee's top two tailbacks, Cedric Houston and Jabari Davis, will be seniors in 2004. Third-teamer Gerald Riggs, Jr., will be a senior in 2005. Signing a quality prospect such as Andrew Eddie clearly will be a recruiting priority next winter.
