FSU chases UT prospect

Tennessee's pursuit of a top-notch tight end/defensive end prospect just got a little more complicated.

Florida State has joined the chase for Everette Brown of Beddingfield High in Wilson, N.C. Brown is a 6-4, 235-pound junior who recorded 110 tackles and eight sacks last fall. Offensively, he caught 24 passes for 400 yards.

''Lately, Florida State has been picking it up,'' Everette told Don Callahan of TheInsiders.com. ''The Florida State tight end coach called my head coach and said that they are interested in me.''

Brown already has scholarship offers from Tennessee, Duke, North Carolina, Penn State and Wake Forest. In addition to those schools, he lists FSU, Virginia Tech and Georgia as his favorites. No school has the edge at present.

''I have been making a favorites list, but I haven't discovered a leader yet,'' he said. ''Right now I'm just waiting it out, and when the time comes I'll know.''

To date, Brown has made unofficial visits to Duke, North Carolina, East Carolina and Tennessee.

''At this time I don't have any plans, but I plan to take a couple more visits,'' he said. ''I know that a lot of spring games are coming up. I also plan to do some one-day camps in the summer.''

Duke and North Carolina reportedly view Brown as a tight end prospect, while Tennessee and the rest of the pursuers see him as a defensive end.
