Athlon projects UT 18th

Athlon's preseason football magazine projects the Tennessee Vols 18th in the coming season and predicts all-star recognition for several UT players.

The magazine foresees first-team All-America honors for punter Dustin Colquitt, first-team All-SEC honors for Colquitt, tackle Michael Munoz and linebacker Kevin Burnett, second-team All-SEC recognition for defensive end Parys Haralson, linebacker Kevin Simon and cornerback Jason Allen, third-team All-SEC recognition for tailback Cedric Houston, center Jason Respert, wideout Chris Hannon, tackle Albert Toeaina, defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona and safety Corey Campbell.

Burnett and Simon grace the cover of the issue, which will hit newsstands May 31.

In rating the SEC teams by position, Tennessee's linebacking corps is ranked No. 1, while Vol running backs and wideouts are ranked No. 2.

Summarizing the season ahead, Athlon writes: ''There is plenty of talent in Knoxville this fall, but the question is, who will be the quarterback? C.J. Leak and Rick Clausen have famous brothers but unproven track records. Defensively, Tennessee will be tough with the Kevins -- Simon and Burnett -- leading the way. The Vols were tough to figure out a year ago, winning at Miami and Florida yet losing to Auburn and Clemson. If these Vols are more consistent and can find a quarterback, a BCS bowl is not out of the question.''
