Vols in Hunt for Alabama lineman

A young line prospect who likes Tennessee recently got offers from the SEC's defending divisional champs.

''I have received new offers from Georgia and LSU,'' Wes Brown told Andrew Bone of TheInsiders.com. ''They both offered me about two weeks ago. Coach (Nick) Saban came by the school and offered me the scholarship.''

Brown also has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Louisville and Duke.

Brown is a 6-4, 252-pound tight end-defensive end from Athens High in Athens, Ala. He recorded 70 receiving yards and 24 tackles for loss last season.

His speed is modest (4.9), so Brown is unlikely to play tight end in college. More likely, he will play defensive end or perhaps bulk and move to tackle. Still, he is highly regarded enough to get offers from LSU and Georgia, the SEC's elite teams.

''It's huge,'' he said. ''I mean, it's just a dream come true. Two top-notch SEC schools have offered me. It doesn't get much better than this.''

Although he declines to name a leader, Brown admits that the Vols are among his favorites.

''I'm still going to wait until the summer and get a chance to meet with some of the coaches,'' he said. ''I want to learn about the different schools. Right now, I'm considering Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU and Georgia.''

Like many top prospects, Brown plans to attend some prospect camps this summer.

''I'm going to Alabama, Vanderbilt, Georgia, LSU and Auburn,'' he said. ''I'm still trying to find a date I can go to the Tennessee camp.''
