Lindy's tabs UT 2nd in East

Most preseason football publications are picking Georgia and Florida to finish 1-2 in the SEC East but Lindy's Southeastern preview is a notable exception.

Lindy's picks Georgia to win the SEC East but projects Tennessee for the runnerup spot. Under the heading GOOD NEWS, Lindy's writes: ''More weapons on offense. Defensive front seven should improve.'' Under the heading BAD NEWS, Lindy's writes: ''Must replace QB Clausen. Lost 3 secondary starters.'' Under the heading OUR CALL, Lindy's writes: ''A loss at Georgia will keep Vols out of SEC title game.''

Lindy's picks Vol junior college signee Albert Toeaina, an offensive tackle, as the ''Newcomer of the Year'' in the SEC. It picks another UT tackle, senior Michael Munoz, as the league's ''Best Pass Blocker,'' and honors senior wideout Tony Brown for ''Best Hands'' in the SEC.

Munoz is listed first-team All-SEC, along with punter Dustin Colquitt. Making second-team All-SEC were tailback Cedric Houston, tight end Victor McClure, defensive end Parys Haralson, plus linebackers Kevin Burnett and Kevin Simon.

Lindy also rates each SEC team by position, yielding some interesting results.

Tennessee is ranked 10th among the 12 league teams at quarterback (ahead of South Carolina and Mississippi State), fifth at running back, third at receiver and second at offensive line. The Vols are pegged fourth at defensive line, first at linebacker, sixth at secondary and second at special teams.

Finally, Lindy's lists 25 ''Freshmen of Influence'' in the SEC for this fall. Two Vol signees made the list -- defensive tackle Demonte Bolden and tailback Ja'Kouri Williams.

Lindy's is on newsstands now at a cost of $6.99.
