UT eyes Atlanta DE

Tennessee signed cornerback prospect Inquoris Johnson out of Atlanta's Crim High School last year, and the Vols may be luring another player from the same site this year.

Quinton Wesley is a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end prospect with 4.7 speed over 40 yards. He reportedly recorded 40 tackles and 30 assists as a junior at Crim last fall. Wesley already has scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Tulane, North Carolina and Middle Tennessee State. Several other schools are in the running for his services, however, including UT.

''My top five right now would be Mississippi State, Auburn, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee,'' Wesley told Chad Simmons of TheInsiders.com.

Here's what he had to say about the schools in his top five:

North Carolina: ''They were the first to offer, and two, they were a childhood favorite.''

Tennessee: ''Inky Johnson is really talking Volunteer Orange, and playing for Tennessee was a dream growing up.''

Auburn: ''Overall success and I like their staff.''

MSU: ''I really like Coach (Sylvester) Croom, and he is someone I could see myself playing for.''

Oklahoma: ''National Championship contenders year after year.''

Wesley hastened to add that Georgia will be in his top five if the homestate Bulldogs begin to show a little more interest.

Because pass rushers are so valuable at the college level, Wesley could blossom into one of the South's better prospects in the months ahead.

''I am considered a speed rusher,'' he said. ''My speed, quickness, agility and acceleration off the ball are things I do well right now. I want to improve on my strength. I want to get more upper and lower body strength.''
