CFN.com pegs UT for 10-1

The folks at Collegefootballnews.com project a 10-1 record for Tennessee's football team this season ... but only rank the Vols No. 16 in the preseason ratings.

CFN.com explains that its ratings are based on how good a team is, without respect to its schedule or other factors that may influence its record.

Here's what the popular website has to say about the Big Orange:

''Call Tennessee the SEC wild-card. There's as much experience, and as much athleticism and talent, as anyone in the conference and anyone in the country. Now is the time for all the potential and all the great recruits of a few years ago to finally play up to the hype. Considering the Vols are in the SEC East, the schedule isn't all that bad.

Relative strength: Linebackers  Relative Weakness: Wide receiver Star of the team: Junior LB Kevin Simon  Key game: Oct. 9 at Georgia''

CFN.com's national top 10 is as follows:

1. Southern Cal (12-0)
2. Oklahoma (12-0)
3. Michigan (10-1)
4. Texas (10-1)
5. Georgia (10-1)
6. Louisiana State (9-2)
7. Florida State (9-2)
8. Miami (9-2)
9. North Carolina State (9-2)
10. Virginia (9-2)

SEC teams ranked in the top 25 are Georgia (No. 5), LSU (No. 6), Auburn (No. 11), Tennessee (No. 16) and Ole Miss (No. 22).
