Trotter tabbed for 'Good Works'

Lady Vol junior sprinter Dee Dee Trotter has been named to the eight-member 2004 SEC Women's Track & Field Good Works Team, conference commissioner Mike Slive announced. The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports, and highlights athletes from each school who give back to their communities in superior service efforts.

Trotter, an NCAA champion in the 400 meters from Decatur, Ga., is a criminal justice major. She has been involved with the Six A program, volunteering 40 hours in the fall semester of 2003 to that endeavor. The program allows collegiate student-athletes to work with teachers and children at local middle schools.

She has also visited both the Eastside YMCA and the Caswell Avenue Boys and Girls Club, speaking to children and providing a positive role model for kids in the area. Trotter, who is currently in Sacramento, Calif., at the U.S. Olympic Trials, was the UT women's track & field team's nominee for the Coca-Cola Community All-American Award in 2004.

Other members of the SEC Track & Field Good Works Team include Virnetta Greene of Alabama (800m), Jessica Johnson of Arkansas (high jump), Stacy Martin of Auburn (throws), Mason Cathey of Florida (distance), Lolo Jones of LSU (hurdles), Renata Hendrix of Mississippi State (jumps) and Kemesha Whitmire of South Carolina (jumps).
