UNLV a tough test?

Pete Fiutak of collegefootballnews.com thinks Tennessee's Sept. 5 opener against Nevada-Las Vegas will be a tougher test than the 21-point betting line suggests. In fact, he thinks it will be a MUCH tougher test.

In his annual preseason Calvacade of Whimsy column, Fiutak has a section called ''Shake up the world'' in which he lists five games that he says ''may not be upsets, but will be nail-biters that will shock America.''

No. 1 on this list is Louisville at Miami on Oct. 14. No. 2 is Miami at Michigan Sept. 4, No. 3 is Marshall at Ohio State on Sept.11, No. 4 is UNLV at Tennessee on Sept. 5 and No. 5 is Fresno State at Kansas State on Sept. 11.

Fiutak also suggests that the Southeastern Conference may be down a bit this season, except for LSU and Georgia. Here's what he has to say about the league:

''The SEC will get by on reputation when it comes to respect from the national media. LSU and Georgia are two of the five best teams in America and worthy of the hype. Auburn will be better than anyone is expecting. However, Tennessee is playing around with two true freshman quarterbacks, Florida will do its yearly gag in two games it shouldn't and the rest of the league is flat-out average to lousy. ... That means Alabama will be one of the year's most overrated teams when it starts out 7-0.''
