Frosh Impact Depth Chart

From all indications, freshmen are going to have a much greater impact than usual on the University of Tennessee football program this fall.

As fans already know, rookies Erik Ainge and Brent Schaeffer are going to share the quarterback duties. But some other freshmen also figure to contribute immediately. David Holbert of Nashville is running second-team at fullback. However, head coach Phillip Fulmer said the rookie got the No. 2 berth ''by default'' due to UT's glaring lack of depth at the position. Another rookie listed second-team is Jonathan Hefney. He's running No. 2 at right cornerback behind Jason Allen. Hefney is backed by another freshman, third-teamer Inky Johnson of Atlanta. Freshman Chris Brown is bracketed second-team at tight end with Brad Cottam. Rookies listed as third-teamers, in addition to Inky Johnson, are: defensive ends Xavier Mitchell and Antonio Reynolds, defensive tackle Ell Ash, strongside linebacker Ryan Karl, middle linebacker James Turner, weakside linebacker Jerod Mayo and strong safety Ellix Wilson.
