Hall's on the ball

The forgotten man of Tennessee's defensive end corps finally has been remembered. Long overshadowed by big-play specialist Parys Haralson, senior starter Karlton Neal and promising prospect Turk McBride, Jason Hall finally stepped into the limelight this week.

The 6-3, 265-pound junior from Chattanooga was so spectacular last Saturday at Georgia -- five solo stops, two assists, a tackle for loss, two sacks, a hurry and a pass deflection -- that he earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition from the SEC office and high marks from Vol defensive coordinator John Chavis.

''He was really outstanding, along with the entire front,'' Chavis said, noting that his tackles (Justin Harrell and Jesse Mahelona) performed admirably despite playing almost every defensive snap.
