Vols, Tide on CBS

Tennessee's Oct. 23 game with Alabama will have a 3:30 kickoff.

Executives at CBS-TV exercised their six-day option today and bought broadcast rights to the game for their 3:30 time slot on the 23rd. The six-day option enables CBS to wait until six days before a game is scheduled to announce whether or not it will televise it.

The network apparently wanted to make sure Bama got by Southern Mississippi this weekend before agreeing to televise the Tide-UT game. CBS announced the decision shortly after Bama concluded a 27-3 defeat of the previously unbeaten USM squad.

Tennessee appeared on CBS earlier this season, beating Florida 30-28. The Vols are 29-19 all-time in games televised by the network.

Tennessee beat Alabama 51-43 in five overtimes last fall at Tuscaloosa, bumping Phillip Fulmer's record against the Tide to 9-2.
