KNOXVILLE -Head Coach Phillip Fulmer toyed with the idea of scrimmaging yesterday. Today he put that plan into action. Wednesday's 25-play scrimmage apparently served its purpose of getting the quarterbacks and younger players some much needed experience.
"Today we had a 25-play scrimmage for our two quarterbacks which was really good for both sides," Fulmer said. "We need to get all the full speed snaps we can with those guys."
Wednesday‚s work-out went a long way for players like Rick Clausen
and C.J. Leak
, the two quarterbacks Fulmer alluded to. It also helped out plenty of younger players across the line of scrimmage.
The reason why so many reserves saw action in the scrimmage is because most of the starters and proven veterans were either held out or are recovering from some sort of injury.
"We're holding people, being cautious with people and trying to get ready for our final three games," Fulmer said.
Tennessee has its final practice of the week on Thursday before reconvening in Knoxville on Sunday.
The coaches will spend tomorrow and Friday on the road recruiting.
