It's official; Allen stays

Reversing his field, junior safety Jason Allen announced at a noon news conference today (Thursday) that he is returning for his senior season of eligibilty at Tennessee.

Allen said a week ago that he planned to bypass his senior year and make himself available for the NFL Draft. Because he did not hire an agent, however, he had the option of changing his mind.

Allen played almost exclusively at cornerback as a sophomore in 2003 but moved to free safety to fill a gaping hole there one game into the 2004 season.

A third-team Associated Press All-American, he led the SEC in tackles with 118. He ranked third in Div. 1-A with 84 solo stops.

Allen had double-digit tackles against Alabama (15), South Carolina (15), Florida (14), Auburn (14), Louisiana Tech (10), Notre Dame (10) and Kentucky (10). He was tabbed Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week following the Bama game.

Allen recorded interceptions against Florida and Vanderbilt.
