Bama Beats Vols 72-54

Leading just 30-25 at intermission, Alabama gradually pulled away in the second half en route to a 72-54 defeat of Tennessee Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The victory improves Bama's record to 6-0 against UT head coach Buzz Peterson. He last beat the Crimson Tide in the 2002 NIT finals while coaching Tulsa.

Kennedy Winston scored 18 points to pace Bama, now 18-4 overall and 7-2 in SEC play. Jamerio Davidson added 16 points and 13 rebounds.

C.J. Watson scored  for Tennessee, which slips to 11-12 overall and 4-6 in league play.

Tennessee was thoroughly outplayed on the inside, getting just 7 points from its 6-foot-10 post men -- Major Wingate (5) and Brandon Crump (2). Crump was playing for the first time since spraining an ankle against Louisville.

The Vols led 18-15 early but Alabama eased ahead by halftime and simply showed more athleticism than Tennessee could cope with down the stretch.

Alabama dominated the backboard, out rebounding Tennessee 43-19.

The Vols, losers in five of their last six games, host Florida Saturday at 5 p.m.
