Lofton is king of 3s

Tennessee's Chris Lofton has cracked the SEC record book. <P> With five 3-pointers in Wednesday night's loss at Kentucky, Lofton raised his season total to 86 treys. That moved him past former Vol Allan Houston (83) and former LSU standout Chris Jackson (84), making Lofton the most prolific freshman 3-point shooter in SEC history.

Lofton, a 6-foot-2 guard from Maysville, Ky., gets a chance to pad his record in the Vols' regular-season finale Saturday night against visiting Georgia. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Lofton has made 19 shots from 3-point range in his last three games. He hit seven 3s each against South Carolina and Arkansas, then nailed five against the Big Blue.

Over that three-game span, Lofton scored 25, 30 and 19 points. That's an average of just a shade under 25 points per game.
