Hall joins injured list

Tennessee's depth at defensive end is getting perilously thin. <P> Rising senior Jason Hall will undergo shoulder surgery next week and miss spring football practice. Hall has never started for the Vols but he saw considerable action in 2004, recording 17 solo stops and 9 assists. Showing a knack for the big play, he registered three sacks, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

The other projected starter at end, Parys Haralson, will be limited this spring due to a knee problem. Toss in the fact Karlton Neal is out of eligibility, and the Vols are down to three healthy and available ends -- rising sophomores Antonio Reynolds, Xavier Mitchell and Jared Hostetter.

Tennessee's walking wounded this spring also includes linebacker Robert Ayers (shoulder), defensive tackle Turk McBride (wrist) and defensive tackle Tony McDaniel (disciplinary suspension). In addition, place-kicker James Wilhoit may face surgery to alleviate pain in his right foot that bothered him throughout the 2004 season.

Spring practice begins March 10.
