Hochevar national pitcher of week

The honors and awards continue to pile up for Tennessee baseball player Luke Hochevar. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Tuesday that the junior All-America candidate was named the Pro-Line Cap National Pitcher of the Week.

After tossing a complete-game one-hitter in Tennessee's 2-1 win at Auburn last Friday, Hochevar was selected as the SEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and placed on the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll.

A native of Fowler, Colo., Hochevar leads the SEC with 54 strikeouts this season. He has fashioned a 1.47 ERA and a 5-1 record while throwing two complete games this season. His last five starts have all resulted in Tennessee victories.

Nebraska junior third baseman Alex Gordon was named National Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. More information about the NCBWA can be obtained at the association's official web site, www.ncbwa.com .
