SEC honors Fekete

University of Tennessee junior centerfielder Sarah Fekete was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after helping lead the Lady Vols to a 5-0 record. The Big Orange topped South Carolina twice and swept Mississippi State in a three-game series. Fekete scored at least one run in every game of the week and crossed the dish a total of eight times.

The Maryville native hit .615 (8-for-13), while drawing three walks, stealing four bases and laying down two sacrifice hits. She repeatedly got on base throughout the week to spark a number of rallies. In the doubleheader sweep of Mississippi State on Saturday, she went 5-for-5 and scored UT's lone run in the 1-0 victory in game one with a single down the left field line, steal of second and RBI base knock from Kristi Durant.

For the season, Fekete is leading the SEC in hitting with a .485 average. She has also contributed four doubles, 12 walks and a team-high 10 sacrifice hits.

The Lady Vols face Virginia in a single contest at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

(NOTE: Fekete is profiled in the March issue of Rocky Top News, which should be arriving at homes and selected newsstands late next week.)
