For Hochevar, who was also selected by Baseball America as a preseason first-team All-America selection, Tuesday's honor was the latest in a plethora of awards he has received this season. The Fowler, Colo., native owns an 8-1 record and leads the Southeastern Conference in wins, strikeouts (75) and innings pitched (65.0). He has tossed three complete games and the Vols have won each of the last eight games he has started.
In conference play, Hochevar has fashioned an impressive 1.45 ERA while going 4-0. SEC opponents are hitting just .163 against him.
Adkins, a true freshman from Mt. Juliet, has posted numbers that rival those of Hochevar. The left-handed rookie owns a 5-1 record in nine starts. His ERA stands at 2.02, and he has 60 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched. He is tied for fourth in the SEC in strikeouts, third in innings pitched and 11th in ERA.
Adkins' stats against SEC opponents include a 2.42 ERA and 2-0 record. One of his best outings came at Auburn March 20, when he threw a complete game while leading Tennessee to a 7-2 victory.
