Baseball Vols host regional

The 2005 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship bracket was released Monday, and Tennessee learned that it will host a trio of conference champions at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend. The Volunteers are the No. 1 seed in the Knoxville Regional, while Winthrop, Wichita State and Austin Peay round out the Nos. 2-4 seeds, respectively.

Tennessee (41-19) faces Austin Peay in first-round regional action Friday at 7 p.m. ET. The Governors are 37-22 this season and are the 2005 Ohio Valley Conference champions.

Friday's first game features No. 2 seed Winthrop (43-20) versus No. 3 seed Wichita State (49-22) at 2 p.m. ET. Winthrop claimed the 2005 Big South Conference title, while Wichita State won the Missouri Valley Conference crown.

The regional runs through Sunday, with a final game to be played Monday, if necessary.

The winner of the Knoxville Regional advances to face the winner of the Atlanta Regional (hosted by Georgia Tech) in a Super Regional June 10-13. The Super Regional winner advances to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., June 17-27.

The other participants in the Atlanta Regional are No. 2 seed South Carolina, No. 3 seed Michigan and No. 4 seed Furman.
