UT practice report

Tennessee held a brief morning workout Monday at Haslam Field in an attempt to beat the heat and also make room for a fun afternoon and evening in Blount County.

Team members traveled to the McCord Farm south of Maryville late Monday afternoon for a few hours of canoeing, fishing, softball and fellowship after their usual 90-minute practice.

"It's been a tough camp and we thought the guys could use some fun," head coach Phillip Fulmer said.

Fulmer singled out junior Rob Smith, redshirt freshman Anthony Parker, and true freshman Lucas Taylor for accomplishments in Saturday's scrimmage. Both Smith and Parker are working at center in hopes of replacing injured starting prospects David Ligon and Richie Gandy.

"We could come out of this better than we were," Fulmer said of the plan to move Smith to center and replace him with redshirt freshman Ramon Foster at left guard. "I was really happy with what Rob got done for his first full scrimmage and first live work.

"And Anthony Parker is probably the most improved guy we've got right now with the work he's done at guard and at center."

Tennessee scrimmages again Tuesday night as this week brings a return to normalcy for the Vols. The first day of classes is Wednesday.
