Scrimmage 3 highlights

The big plays that punctuated Tennessee's first two full-scale scrimmages of the preseason were generally missing Tuesday night as the Vols held scrimmage No. 3.

Erik Ainge completed a 46-yard pass to Robert Meachem and a 30-yarder to Bret Smith. Arian Foster had the scrimmage's longest run, a 20-yard burst. That was pretty much the extent of the offensive fireworks.

Here's a recap of the most significant plays:

- Cornerback Roshaun Fellows outbattled Bret Smith to intercept an Erik Ainge pass at the goal line.

- Rick Clausen hit Gerald Riggs for an 11-yard gain.

- David Yancey made a nifty move, turning a potential four-yard loss into a four-yard gain.

- Ainge hit tight end Brad Cottam for a 22-yard gain but the play was negated by an illegal formation penalty.

- Linebacker Kevin Simon delivered a thunderous lick on tight end Justin Reed after Reed caught a four-yard pass from Clausen.

- Riggs popped free on a counter option for 10 yards.

- Ainge made a beautiful throw to Bret Smith for a 30-yard gain.

- Arian Foster popped outside on a 20-yard scamper.

- Fellows made a spectacular play to break up an Ainge pass intended for Robert Meachem.

- Simon stormed up the middle on a blitz to sack Ainge for a 10-yard loss.

- Freshman safety Demetrice Morley made a big hit to break up a pass.

- Linebacker Jerod Mayo hammered Bret Smith after the latter caught a 10-yard pass over the middle.

- Morley turned in back-to-back impressive plays. First, he made a nice break to nearly intercept a pass by Ainge. Next, he came up to stop LaMarcus Coker for no gain.

- Ainge hit Meachem in perfect stride with a 25-yard strike that Meachem lugged another 21 yards to complete a 46-yard play.

- Foster squirted up the middle for a 13-yard touchdown run.
