Delmonico gets extension

Tennessee baseball coach Rod Delmonico has signed a new five-year contract, a reward for leading the Vols to the College World Series this past season.

Delmonico got a $20,000 raise on his base salary, going from $100,000 to $120,000 annually, according to UT athletic director Mike Hamilton. Delmonico also gets $70,000 per year in apparel for a total of $190,000.

Delmonico will get a raise of $10,000 per year for taking his team to the NCAA Tournament. If he makes the NCAA tourney, he gets one year back on his five-year contract. If he gets to a Super Regional, he gets two years back on is contract, not to exceed five years. If he gets his team back to the College World Series, he gets a renewal of his contract to the full five years.

``It's heavily tied toward performance,'' said Hamilton. ``Rod's real happy about it. We're real happy about it. Given that he's made back-to-back NCAA tournaments, made the College World Series last year and has made the College World Series three times in 10 years, we've made progress (in baseball).''
