Sears tabbed again

Tennessee junior Arron Sears completed a sweep of the 2005 Southeastern Conference postseason awards when he was named to the Coaches' All-SEC first team. Sears also earned first-team honors from Associated Press.

The Russellville, Ala., lineman was Tennessee's most versatile blocker in 2005 and earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors for his play against Mississippi. That honor came one week after he played all but the center position in Tennessee's overtime win at LSU.

Three Vols notched second-team honors from the league's coaches. Defensive end Parys Haralson and linebacker Kevin Simon -- both of whom also made the AP second team -- were selected along with linebacker Omar Gaither.

Haralson stands third among both SEC sack (8.5) and TFL (16.5) leaders and finished his UT career with 46.5 TFLs to rank third on the school's all-time list. Simon paced the Vols in tackles for the second time in three seasons after missing nearly all of 2004 with a knee injury. The senior linebacker wrapped up his career with 237 total tackles.

Gaither leads the SEC with four forced fumbles. He had team tackle honors in two games and finished the season second on the squad with 78 tackles.

Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players. The All-SEC squad had 13 first-team seniors and 15 underclassmen, including nine juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen. On the second-team, 15 seniors were selected, nine juniors and two sophomores and one freshman.

The SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced on Thursday.
