The opener would likely be a late afternoon start as part of an ESPN doubleheader.

The Tennessee-California game Sept. 2 will probably be part of an ESPN doubleheader involving another SEC team.

Hamilton said he planned to move the game to Sept. 3 on ESPN2 but California balked. As the home team, UT has the right to set the kickoff time, but when the day of the game is changed, the opposing team must agree.

``We were willing,'' Hamilton said. ``Cal was unwilling.''

So, ESPN is looking to carry the UT-Cal game Sept. 2 at 5:30 with the Southern Cal at Arkansas game to follow at 9 p.m.

The UT-Memphis game is already set for ESPN and it is likely ESPN will select the UT at South Carolina game Oct. 28.

Hamilton said he wants the UT-Air force game Sept. 9 to be played at night, provided Jefferson Pilot doesn't select the game. It is unlikely JP will opt for UT-Air Force because the SEC has three league games scheduled that day.
