Spring practice No. 1

Moments after leaving the field following Tennessee's first day of spring practice, head football coach Phillip Fulmer praised the team's energy.

"There was good energy on the practice field but, as would be expected, we've got lots and lots of work to do to get to where we want to be as far as an executing football team on either side. The good part about it was there was a lot of energy from the coaches and there was a lot of energy around the team."

Thursday's workout was the first for new staff members Kurt Roper (running backs) and Matt Luke (tight ends). Fulmer described them as "young guys, high-spirited guys with good energy. They are as smart as can be.

"It's a real plus that they've been around our offense's terminology, it's close enough that they are not having to feel their way around the offense. David (Cutcliffe) basically took it from here to Ole Miss and that's what they've learned, so that part has been good. Trooper (Taylor) is the same way at receiver. It was a really positive day that way."
