NCAA tabs Bertani

Tennessee associate athletics director Brad Bertani learned Thursday that he has been named to the NCAA Div. I Legislative Review/Interpretations Committee. One of nine individuals on the committee, Bertani will help render decisions on interpretative questions related to the application of NCAA legislation.

"The committee provides official interpretations of rules that NCAA institutions have adopted for the membership," said Bertani, who has handled compliance issues for UT men's athletics since February 2004.

Other members of the committee are Shane Lyons of the ACC, Don Oberhelman of Southern Mississippi, James Klein of Toledo, Renee Mack Baumgartner of Oregon, Ray Shackelford of Bethune-Cookman, Thomas Hickman of Winthrop and Janet Lucas of Cal State Northridge. The committee chair is Texas State's Tracy Shoemake.

Bertani worked four years as an NCAA membership services representative before being named associate athletics director for compliance at Marshall in 2002. Before his NCAA tenure, he spent time on the athletics department staffs at Detroit and Ohio State.

A 1991 Denison University political science graduate, Bertani completed a master's in sports administration at Ohio University and his law degree at Capital University in 1994. He is married to the former Gretchen Harris of Columbus, Ohio. They have three children: Lydia, 9, Joey, 5, and Lindsey, 3.
