Young's a no-show

If you're going to play for Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl, you're going to play with enthusiasm. If you're going to coach for Pearl, you're going to coach with enthusiasm.

Charlton Young isn't going to coach for Pearl.

Young, an assistant coach at Georgia Tech, did not make a scheduled Wednesday visit to Knoxville to interview for the UT staff vacancy created when Scott Edgar left to become head man at Southeast Missouri State. According to published reports, Pearl felt Young didn't show enough interest in the Vol vacancy to warrant serious consideration.

Whether Pearl will continue interviewing candidates or choose from among the five he already has interviewed remains to be seen.

Already interviewed were former Ole Miss head man Rod Barnes, former Texas-San Antonio head man Tim Carter, former Iowa State assistant Damon Archibald, Kent State aide Josh Oppenheimer and coach/general manager Bob Sundvold of the ABA's Kansas City Knights.
