TSN Expert No Title for Vols

Tom Dienhart, who writes the clever and colorful ''Mailbag'' column for The Sporting News, can't see Tennessee winning a conference football title this fall, let alone a national championship. In his latest column, dated June 28 and visible at sportingnews.com, he fields a question from Frank Hulse, who describes himself as ''a displaced Tennessee fan living and working in Germany.'' Hulse's question concerns the Vols' SEC and national title hopes.

Dienhart's answer is as follows:

Frank: Good to hear from a reader in Germany. I don't want to extinguish the sizzle on your Wiener schnitzel, but I don't think Tennessee is going to win the SEC or national title.

The schedule helps the Vols, as there are nine games within the state borders, but it still will be challenging to pass tests when Miami (Fla.), Alabama and Florida visit. There also is a trip to Georgia, which has had a Phillip Fulmer voodoo doll the last two years. And the rebuilt defensive line figures to have a hiccup or two along the way. So, that's that.

But, hey, life for you isn't so bad: You're in Germany. You could be wrestling bears in the June heat at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
