UT Athletes of the Year

The University of Tennessee today (July 8) announced the winners of its edsouth Scholar Athlete and Athlete of the Year awards for men and women.

Kacey Montgomery of the rowing team and Michael Burton of the men's swim team are winners of the Scholar Athlete awards. Both carry perfect 4.0 grade-point averages — Montgomery inmicrobiology, Burton in chemistry. Montgomery is a junior from Apopka, Fla., and Burton a sophomore from McMinnville, Ore.

Tennis standout Vilmarie Castellvi and men's track star Justin Gatlin are winners of the Athlete of the Year recognition. Castellvi is a junior from Guaynabo, P.R., while Gatlin is a sophomore Pensacola, Fla. Castellvi was No. 4 in the final collegiate tennis rankings of the season, while Gatlin recently won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
