Cal to clobber Vols?

If Greg Amsinger of College Sports TV is correct, Tennessee's football team is due to suffer a Game 1 humiliation. He rates the California Golden Bears the nation's third-best team and predicts they will crush the Vols Sept. 2 at Neyland Stadium.

Here's what Amsinger has to say about California in his "Off Prompter" column:

"The Golden Bears are the best team in the Pac-Ten. Jeff Tedford will showcase three future first-round NFL Draft picks this season. RB Marshawn Lynch has top-shelf talent and could be invited to NYC for the Heisman Trophy presentation. WR DeSean Jackson could be a Heisman candidate in '07 and Bears' opponents better get ready for a breakout season from QB Nate Longshore. He was injured last year and never displayed his enormous talent. Expect a blowout road victory over Tennessee to open the '06 campaign."

Amsinger's rankings can be viewed by going to CSTV.com (a CBS company) and clicking on the "Football" link. Under the heading "Piling On," he lists his projected top 35 college teams, with commentary. For what it's worth, his top five consists of 1. Ohio State, 2. Notre Dame, 3. Cal, 4. Auburn, 5. Oklahoma.

Amsinger lists five Southeastern Conference teams in his top 35. In addition to Auburn, they are Florida at No. 7, LSU at No. 17, Georgia at No. 20 and Alabama at No. 22. Tennessee is nowhere to be found.
