Three more Vols drafted

Three more members of the 2006 University of Tennessee baseball team and three more signees for 2007 were taken today as the Major League Baseball concluded its annual draft with Rounds 19 through 50.

Counting No. 1 overall pick Luke Hochevar, who last pitched for UT in the spring of 2005, seven Vol players and six Vol signees were taken during the two-day, 50-round selection process.

Drafted today were a trio of Vol juniors – Deunte Heath (Round 19, Atlanta Braves), Ty Pryor (Round 26, Cleveland Indians) and Chris Siewert (Round 33, San Francisco Giants).

Heath, an Atlanta native, went 4-3 for the '06 Vols with a 3.86 ERA. Pryor, another right-hand pitcher, went 1-1 with a 4.93 ERA. Siewert, an infielder/outfielder, batted .125 in limited action for the '06 Vols. The Giants reportedly plan to make him a catcher if he signs.

Signees drafted today were left-hand pitchers Nick Hernandez (Round 32, Oakland A's) and Bryan Morgado (Round 34, Boston Red Sox), plus right-hander Ryan Butner (Round 38, San Francisco Giants). All three were high school seniors in Miami, Fla., this spring.

Hernandez went 9-2 with a 0.88 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 63.1 innings as a junior at Hialeah High. Butner, also from Hialeah High, was 6-4 with a 1.91 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 44.2 innings. Morgado, from Florida Christian High, went 9-1 with a 0.76 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 67.1 innings.
